Institutions, institutions, institutions! These are the three principles to economic development. Elena Panaritis, institutional economist and policy innovator will demonstrate how broken institutions can lead to ‘informal’ economy –for example in labour and property markets-, severe austerity measures and an insecure environment for investments and development. Elena will share the panel with Gary Reid, Economist and Lead Public Sector Management Specialist, World Bank and Daniel Kauffman from the Brookings Institute.
In more than a decade as an economist at the World Bank, Elena Panaritis spearheaded several institutional reforms including property rights reform. She has worked in more than 30 countries and her methodology – ‘Reality Check Analysis’ received International Best Practice and Innovation award. Elena will explore how Greece can find her way out of the crisisthrough sheer determination, careful examination of institutions and a rigorous public sector reform.
